biocoal GmbH is an innovative start-up that has made the distribution of CO2-neutral biochar its mission. biocoal GmbH combines the visions and expertise of its founders to work together towards a sustainable future.
Story & Realization
The biocoal website presents a pioneering technology in an impressive way: biochar. Behind this new and informative platform about the product and the production process is a completely redesigned website programmed with the Kirby content management system.
Technology
We chose Kirby CMS because of its unique flexibility and user-friendliness. Kirby makes it possible to adapt websites to the needs of the client and the corresponding content without any restrictions. This applies to both the backend and the frontend.
In the backend of the website, the aim is always to make recurring content globally maintainable - this allows our clients to ensure two things when maintaining their content: Time savings, as no duplicate maintenance is necessary, and consistency, as this prevents the same content from differing in different places on the website.
The challenge
The technology of biochar is complex and requires precise presentation. Together with biocoal, we were able to present the scientific aspects of biochar in a way that is understandable to a broad audience. With a clear structure, vivid graphics and intuitive navigation, visitors to the website are guided step by step through the world of biochar.
This enabled us to develop a website that does justice to biocoal's complex content and that is unlike anything else on the web. Both the PHP template structure of the website and the design were created individually and by hand for biocoal.

The Design
The design of the website reflects the innovative nature of biochar. It is clean and structured so as not to overload the complexity of the technology. At the same time, it is a (tiny) touch playful, which conveys the sustainability and positive effects of biochar in a subtly entertaining way.
The color palette is deliberately reduced and focuses on natural tones that consistently establish a connection to the earth. The use of high-quality images and graphics makes the world of biochar visually tangible, and the web design for this project was created by UI/UX designer Marcel Tebbe.
The result
biocoal.de is a successful example of how an innovative technology can be made accessible to a broad public through a carefully designed website.
The choice of Kirby CMS as a development platform has also proven to be the right one here and enables flexible and sustainable future development of the website.
